TAMESIDE Rotary’s Santa float is getting ready to roll once again to bring festive joy to neighbourhoods this December.
But before the jolly man in red can set off, the Rotary team is calling for a few extra helpers to make the magic happen.
Each year, volunteers join the float for an evening as it tours local streets, greeting excited children and raising vital funds for charities and community groups.
The event has become a cherished part of the Christmas calendar for parts of Tameside and last year it raised £7,000.
This was shared among 29 local groups, with beneficiaries ranging from those providing hot meals to vulnerable residents, to projects running community hubs.
Rotary members say it’s one of the most heartwarming events of the year and anyone who can spare a few hours to help with the float is invited to get involved.
Su Greaves from Tameside Rotary said: “This is such a lovely, fun, community event – the kids’ faces light up, the music plays and it really does make Christmas feel special.”
Volunteers can sign up to help when the float visits their local area by holding a bucket to collect donations whilst walking alongside the sleigh.
