PEOPLE across Tameside who look after a loved one are being encouraged to learn more about their rights and the support available to them.
Tameside Carers Centre will open its doors for a special drop-in event on Carers Rights Day, on Thursday, November 20.
It will give unpaid carers the chance to connect with local organisations, get practical advice, and make sure they’re receiving the help they’re entitled to.
The event will be from 10am to midday at The People Place, in the Tameside One building in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.
Visitors will be able to chat with a range of local services – including Epseminars offering free legal advice; Tameside Welfare Rights providing benefits information; and The Anthony Seddon Fund offering mental health support.
Support will also be available from the likes of Tameside Adult Safeguarding Board, the Stroke Association, Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, Scope, and Talking Therapies.
The event is designed to be welcoming and informal, allowing carers to drop in, ask questions and take away information including help with finances, wellbeing, and local community resources.
Councillor John Taylor, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Knowing your rights as a carer is so important. Come along and find out about the support you’re entitled to. Our friendly team is here to help you access the services that can make a real difference.”
Visit www.tameside.gov.uk/carerscentre or call 0161 342 3344 to find out more about the Carers Centre – including regular drop-in times.
Every day in the UK, 12,000 people become unpaid carers for a partner, friend or family member, according to Carers UK.
