Body found in search for missing Hyde man

A BODY believed to be of that of a missing Hyde man has been found by police.

Concerns were raised about his whereabouts after he was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, September 13.

Several appeals were made by family and friends in an attempt to trace him.

Doorbell footage showed a taxi which had picked him up leaving an address just before 5am on September 13 from the Werneth Low area.

Now after a body was discovered on Mottram Old Road in Hyde, the Greater Manchester force said it believes it is that of Mr Thornton.

In a statement, it said: “We can confirm that the body of who we believe to be missing man, Richard Thornton, has sadly been found deceased this morning off Mottram Old Road, Hyde (16 September).

“Richard was reported missing to us on Saturday and enquiries had been ongoing since to locate him.

“Formal identification is yet to take place, however Richard’s family have been informed of this update and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Richard’s death, and a file will be passed to the coroner.”
