A GROUP of consultants from Tameside Hospital have set their sights on Africa’s highest mountain to support the hospital’s Breast Unit.
Pardeep Arora will be joined by a dedicated team of seven colleagues to embark on the physical and mental challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Mr Arora – a consultant breast surgeon at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust – will be accompanied on the ascent by colorectal surgeon Mr Solkar and anaesthetist Dr Rehman and more members of staff.

“As a consultant surgeon, I see first-hand how vital it is to have the right tools, environment, and support in place for patients undergoing breast surgery,” said Pardeep.
“I’m climbing Kilimanjaro to help enhance our breast unit – to improve the experience for patients and ensure we can continue providing the best possible care.”
Setting off on August 23, they will scale the 5,895m peak in East Africa over seven gruelling days.
The funds that they raise will go directly towards services and facilities within the breast unit at the Ashton-based hospital – from upgrading equipment to providing supportive resources for patients and their families.
Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Mr Arora and the team for taking on such a monumental challenge.
“Their commitment to improving patient care is inspiring, and we’re calling on our local community to get behind them with their support.”
