A GOVERNMENT minister has returned to one of his “favourite places to visit” to hear how a local charity is helping people overcome homelessness.
Local MP and Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds met with community members and discussed key issues on his latest trip to Emmaus Mossley.
The charity offers a home, work opportunities, companionship and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
Emmaus Mossley opened in 1997 and now has the capacity to support 26 companions – the name given to describe residents at Emmaus communities – at any one time.

MP Reynolds, who represents Mossley in the House of Commons, toured the charity’s residential community and large Secondhand Superstore in Longlands Mill on Queen Street.
As well as meeting staff and volunteers, Mr Reynolds also heard first-hand from companions – people supported by the charity – about their experiences and overcoming homelessness.
“Emmaus Mossley is one of my favourite places to visit and both the charity and their Secondhand Superstore continue to go from strength to strength,” the MP commented.
“The spirit of community, compassion and togetherness is palpable and there for everyone to see.

“I have supported and visited Emmaus over many years and would like to congratulate all companions, volunteers and staff for continuing to develop and create, what is, a wonderful asset within Mossley, Tameside and the Greater Manchester city region.”
Mr Reynolds was shown around by Emmaus companion Darren, with all income raised from the Superstore used by the charity to sustain the residential community and support given to people who live there.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Jonathan back to our community for a tour, lunch and to discuss both local and national issues linked to our charity and the support of people who experience homelessness,” said Alison Hill, Emmaus Mossley’s Chief Executive Officer.
“We are proud of what Emmaus Mossley is achieving, both locally and as part of the wider Emmaus movement. It was good to be able to share our progress and developments with Jonathan and we are very grateful for his continued support of our charity.”
