Mossley funeral director helps community with grants to groups

A MOSSLEY funeral director is handing out grants to seven local groups as it supports its community.

The Elizabeth Way and Company Community Assistance Programme invited projects within three miles of their base on Stamford Street to apply for small sums to continue their work.

Now the groups have been chosen to receive financial support as they address the needs of people in the local area.

The Power of Resilience CIC, which runs workshops and social events to support those facing adverse circumstances in life, is among them.

Friends of Mossley Park and Veterans Tribe, which offers creative activities and social events for local veterans and their families, will also benefit.

The Swan Team at Tameside & Glossop NHS Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides compassionate support such as emotional support, practical assistance and the distribution of poignant memory boxes to those who have lost loved ones, was chosen.

As was the Mossley Community Association to support their Mum’s Morning Meet Up initiative to help new parents socialise and access support, along with George’s Kitchen – a community meal delivery service based at St George’s Church in Stalybridge.

Earlier this year, the programme also supported the Mossley Town Team by awarding money for a brass band to play during the annual Whit Walk.

The latest round of the Community Assistance Programme is now open, with groups able to apply for small grants until the end of September.

Funeral Director Ben McCutcheon said he and the team at Elizabeth Way, plus local religious leaders the Rev Denise Owens, Father Jim Clarke and the Rev Robert Balfour, who help make up the judging panel, were delighted to support so many local groups – and that he was hoping to hear from more groups soon.

“It has been great to hear from the people involved in these brilliant projects across our community,” he said.

“Giving them these grants is a great start, but we want to continue to work with them and support in any way we can to deliver these brilliant projects.

“We know the community spirit is strong in the area and I am excited to hear from more organisations we can support with our next round of funding.”
