Anarchic school trip comedy hits Tameside stage

AN anarchic comedy drama based on a school trip like no other will be re-enacted on a Tameside stage.

‘Our Day Out’ will be performed at Guide Bridge Theatre from September 9 to 14.

The play by the award-winning Willy Russell was first seen on BBC2 in 1977, starring Alun Armstrong and Elizabeth Estensen among others.

Thirty children – and their teachers – set out from Liverpool to North Wales on a coach and, as the volatile mixture erupts, mirth and anarchy prevail while tempers flare.

Directed by Jenny Savill, the play at the Audenshaw-based theatre will show how the trip to Conwy Castle for Mrs Kay’s ‘Progress Class’ is “an exuberant celebration of the joys and agonies of growing up and being footloose, fourteen and free from school”.

Performances are every evening from Monday, September 9, to Saturday, September 14 at 7.30pm – as well as a 2pm Saturday matinee.

Tickets are £11 each, or £9.90 for Guide Bridge Theatre members, and can be bought online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/gbt/e-ggelax

If you cannot make any of the shows, there are other ways you can support the Audenshaw Road venue.

People can sponsor a seat to contribute to the ongoing enhancements at the theatre, with your name included on the sponsors’ storyboard. Email hello@gbtheatre.co.uk for more information.

The theatre is also looking for volunteers to help in areas such as the Box Office, Front of House, refreshments, set building, the backstage crew and graphic design. Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to email volunteers@gbtheatre.co.uk
