A NEW trail is giving people a chance to have a ‘wander’ around Ashton-under-Lyne town centre and discover the town’s 100-year history.
Launching later this month, the free ‘Wellbeing Wander’ trail is marked by a series of 12 lampposts within a one-mile radius, making it suitable for families and all ages to enjoy.
Followers will be taken on a journey around some of Ashton’s long-standing attractions – including Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre, Portland Basin Museum, and Ashton Library and Information Service.

Residents and visitors can scan the QR code along the route to pick up a leaflet from any of the attractions to join in the fun.
Celebrating Ashton’s unique history, the trail has been developed using funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Tameside Council’s Assistant Executive Member for Culture, Heritage, Participation and Sport is encouraging people to get involved.
“The Ashton Wander is a fabulous idea as it combines creativity and culture to highlight some of the town’s best-loved heritage assets,” said Councillor Sangita Patel.
“It offers residents, visitors and even people who work in Ashton the chance to get out and explore to find out more about the town and borough’s history or get involved in something new.
“Getting out and doing something new is great for both your mental and physical wellbeing and it is easy to link up with the trail and take and enjoy it at your own pace.”
