THERE’s a lot going on throughout the summer in Tameside, but one of the most captivating and intriguing occasions set to stop here on tour is the new show from The Fabularium.
The Coventry-based company tours the country and beyond putting on shows to support the development of postgraduates from the university.
In August, they’ll be bringing their newest creation to Tameside as part of the maiden voyage of The Crew. So, what’s this new performance about, and why does it look set to be such a crowd-pleaser?
The Crew Sets Sail for Tameside This Summer
Originally announced via their social media feeds on 17 July with a paper cut-out style video announcing six dates for the show, The Crew was first performed on 27 July at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot. The second showing is what will be staged in Hyde this August.
The Crew looks to be a tale set on the high seas, drawing on pirate motifs and ancient cultures. The backdrop of the story is that the gods have been angered by humanity’s disregard for the planet and so have deserted us. Well, one god has decided to stick around, hoping to help those who remain to coexist.
To create the conflict, a great storm will bring together two wrecked ships and their two very different ancient cultures with their own ideals for the world. They’ll have to work together to get back to safety and face the great unknown head-on.
It looks to draw on a lot of presently popular themes and ideas, which should make for an entertaining tale. The Crew will arrive on these shores on Wednesday, 7 August. The Fabularium will be putting on two shows at Hyde Park, one at 11am and another at 2:30pm, with tickets available for you to purchase now.
There’s Always Adventure on the High Seas
Pirates and even just dramas set on the open ocean rarely fail to intrigue. Simply being on the waters makes for a unique kind of threat and feel of adventure. Naturally, the pirate’s life is the big play for this angle of storytelling. Battling the seas is just as much a part of the challenge as evading authorities and actually trying to find buried treasure.
It’s why one of the most popular new online slots in the UK has a high seas theme. Riptide Pirates has the inherent appeal of adventure on the open ocean, even though you wouldn’t normally think of slots as being particularly story-driven. You can even have a bit of fun with the dangers of such an outing, as they did with Our Flag Means Death.
To the disgruntlement of fans around the world, HBO cancelled the Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi-led show about a rogue gentleman and captain Blackbeard. Given the timing of the comedy’s demise, perhaps The Crew is arriving at just the right time to appease those who craved the third season.
Being in a new medium of entertainment and with the infusion of the gods and ancient cultures, The Crew will vastly differ from what we know as the usual pirate-themed adventure or drama, which only makes it more intriguing. The Fabularium will drop anchor at Hyde Park on 7 August for what promises to be a very fun experience.
