A POPULAR cafe in Mossley has sent shockwaves through the local community by announcing it has ‘closed until further notice’.
The Allotment Cafe re-opened in September last year under new management, after initially deciding to shut its doors for good.
The premises in Woodend Mill on Manchester Road rebranded and planned to join forces with Mozaic Cafe & Delicatessen, offering classic British breakfasts along with Moroccan and Lebanese dishes.

But bosses delivered a surprise update on Sunday, June 9, to say that the cafe – which attracted customers from across the area and beyond – is now closed.
A statement on the cafe’s social media pages said: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but The Allotment Cafe is closed until further notice.
“The decision was not made lightly but, sadly, it’s unavoidable. Thanks to our customers for all your support over the years, we’re immensely grateful to have been part of the Mossley community.”
Customers expressed their sadness about the news.
Amanda Carroll wrote: “Was only here a couple of weeks ago. So sad, lovely place and food.”
Alison Shakeshaft commented: “So sorry to hear this news. It’s always been a great place to visit.”
Orla Wrigley added: “Very sad to hear this. It has been a special place for us for a long time.”
The cafe – which was previously The Flying Teapot cafe – opened back in 2019 and was a real haven for people to get takeaway refreshments once coronavirus restrictions started to ease in 2021.
