TAMESIDE Council hopes to make £750,000 from the sale of a former Denton primary school.
The authority is disposing of several assets as it looks to secure more than £3 million worth of funds.
And a large proportion may be made up of the sale of what was Denton Central Primary School, on Duke Street.
However, any buyer is warned in papers: “A condition survey dated July 24, 2020 confirms backlog maintenance works required of approximately £220,000.”
Denton Central, which closed in 2005, is now home to almost 10,000sq ft of office accommodation but will shortly be empty.
Documents from the meeting of Tameside Council’s executive cabinet on Wednesday, December 20, state: “The property has been closed as a primary school since 2005 and has been occupied by council services for the past 10 years.
“Due to the new locality model of working, backlog maintenance and annual running cost liability to the council, the property is in the process of being vacated and it is no longer required for operational purposes.”
Denton Central is not the only asset in the town Tameside Council is looking to dispose of.
Also on a list of areas across the borough are land at the junction of Thornleys Road and Broomgrove Lane – which is set to go to auction with the hope of reaching a price tag of £75,000.
Documents add: “The council has previously discussed the possibility of selling the site to the adjoining owner, however, this interest was withdrawn some time ago.
“The land is now a potential site for a temporary car park, needed in connection with bridge repairs at the nearby St Anne’s Bridge on the M67.
“Upon completion of the bridge works, and the temporary car park requirement ended, the land is likely to be suitable for a small in-fill residential development
“It is therefore considered an appropriate time to declare the land surplus to council requirements now.”
In neighbouring Audenshaw, Tameside Council hopes to raise £40,000 by auctioning land at Peel Street, which was the site of garages.
However, it is also stated an ‘encroachment’ into an adjoining building by Audenshaw School is made formal and excluded from the disposal.
