PEOPLE in Tameside can find out things from their family’s past – and unearth some shocks and surprises – with the area’s only family history group.
Have you ever watched episodes of the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are and wondered, ‘I don’t know why they never research the Family History Stories of ordinary people?’
You may also have thought, ‘Where can I go that will help me to find out my story?’
Well, the Tameside branch of The Family History Society of Cheshire is the place to go – and it does not matter if your town was in Lancashire before 1974.
And on Tuesday, September 19, it is holding a Discovery Day from 11am until 4pm at the Local Studies Library and Archives Centre on Cotton Street East in Ashton-under-Lyne.
If you want to start discovering your stories, you can come and talk to the experts and see what is available in Tameside, with an introductory talk at 11.30 am.
The event is a partnership between Tameside Local Studies and Archives Library and The Family History Society of Cheshire.
The group can also be found in Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre between 2pm and 4pm on the first and third Tuesdays of each month to help anyone on a one-to-one basis, either to start your family history or to solve queries.
For more information about then group, you can contact them via email at tameside@fhsc.org.uk
