NICK Spooner admits the number of strikers he has listed as potential transfer targets is ‘getting embarrassing.’
But he is still looking for the out-and-out goalscorer he believes will take them to that next level as they target promotion from the Northern Premier League.
The Tigers dropped to third in the Premier Division by only securing a 1-1 draw against an Atherton Collieries side that was reduced to 10 men when Marcus Cusani received his second booking for a foul on Callum Spooner.
Substitute Edy Maieco’s goal 11 minutes from time rescued a point for Hyde after Bailey Thompson’s smart finish on the stroke of half-time in front of 721 spectators.
But this was a game the Tigers should have won for all the pressure they had – and the manager knows he needs someone who can turn that into goals.
Spooner said: “It’s getting embarrassing to be fair.
“We’re going through and going through. Everyone’s under contract, you want that right striker, especially with the dressing room we have, we’ve got a great dressing room.
“We want the right person to come through that door and hopefully we’re not too far away.
“Hopefully we’ll get one in who can open the door for us – it’s just a goalscorer we need, we create a lot of chances, we just need that poacher in the box to get us some goals.
“Hopefully we’ll find him
“We say it every week. We’re looking for that striker who’s going to get us the goals, it’s just difficult to find the one we want.
“We’ve got some good players and we are a good team – we’ve just got to get one to improve us.
“We’ve got to be better in that final third. We’re shooting when we don’t have to, we’re forcing it.”
