Honour to Queen scoops Angela Rayner MP’s Christmas card award

A GIRL’S portrait showing the late Queen Elizabeth II decorating her tree with her beloved corgi dogs has proved the winner of MP Angela Rayner’s annual Christmas card competition.

Layla Sharkey from St Stephen’s RC Primary in Droylsden scooped the prize with her drawing, which captured the scene perfectly.

Second place went to Amelie Ford from Canon Burrows CE Primary in Ashton and third place was won by Lois Kenny from St Mary’s RC Primary in Failsworth.

Each year, in the run up to the festive period, Angela invites schools across Ashton, Droylsden and Failsworth to produce a design that will be made into her official Christmas card.

And after sifting through hundreds of entries, Layla’s design won out.

The winning design

Angela said: “School visits are my favourite bit of the job and I am always so pleased when I see the Christmas card entries arrive at my office.

“My team and I love looking through them all and it is always so hard to pick just one winner and two runners up.

“Layla’s design is absolutely beautiful and I will be very proud to send these cards to my colleagues at Westminster, councillors, local businesses, schools, friends and family.

“I would like to give huge thanks to all the children who took part in the competition and spent time working on their designs. I hope they all enjoyed taking part.

“I am so proud to represent such wonderful people and I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
