Emergency services attended the scene and despite the best attempts of officers and paramedics, a 16-year-old passenger of the vehicle that collided with a lamp post was pronounced dead a short time later after suffering fatal injuries.

Now police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after the incident, which saw two others suffer minor and serious injuries, while the 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning after treatment to his injuries.

Specialist officers have been deployed to support his family at this devastating time.
