Carnival makes up for lost time

HUNDREDS of people and dozens of community groups took full advantage as Stalybridge’s Carnival returned to the calendar.

After a two-year enforced absence, the parade and festivities were back on Sunday, June 26 – and it is fair to say it had been waited for.

Global Grooves in the parade

Primary schools were joined by pubs, Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club, Cosmo Bingo, Cubs, Scouts and churches, who had their Rose Queens on show as then parade made its way from Bayley Street to Cheetham Park.

Stalybridge-based haulage firm Broadhurst Transport kindly provided the floats for the main event, which was followed in the park by a celebration of all things Stalybridge.

And over in Armentieres Square, Stalybridge Festival Committee, which held a ‘warm up’ there the day before, put on another event featuring a rock choir.

And overall, the turnout exceeded everyone’s expectations.
