Election recap 2022: Turn-er up sees Labour ousted

LUCY Turner believes seeing ‘the ball being dropped’ as Labour operated led to them being dethroned in Ashton Hurst.

The Conservative candidate saw off sitting councillor Dolores Lewis by 1,411 votes to 1,384 – the smallest majority of all 19 wards of 27.

A former police officer, the new Councillor Turner became the second of three representatives for that ward, joining Dan Costello.

And she explained that seeing areas in which Labour were not doing the business in her locality led to her success.

She said: “It wasn’t about showing where Labour were lacking as a whole.

“It’s just I felt there were areas which needed to be looked at, where things had been overlooked or the ball had been dropped perhaps.

“I’m not apportioning blame to anyone. Dolores knows more than me about what being a councillor is as I’ve only just started.

“And I imagine things do get missed but if anyone wants to contact me with a problem, I’ll do my utmost to make sure that it’s either solved or that the right people now about it.

“Cllr Turner does have a good ring to it, doesn’t it? I wasn’t expecting it though!”
