FATHER and son John and Anthony Sharples may well have created a piece of history at Stamford Golf Club.
John has taken on the role of president for the next 12 months while son Anthony is captain of the Carrbook club.
It is believed to be the first time a father and son have held the two posts simultaneously.

Anthony said: “I am not sure if it has been done before but it is unusual.
“You could call it nepotism, but we are certainly keeping it in the family.
“One of my great joys is being able to play golf with by father.”
John, 76, who lives in Carrbrook, has been a member at Stamford for 43 years and was captain in 2015. He plays off a handicap of 19.
Anthony, meanwhile, is also from Carrbrook and works in risk management for AXA Insurance.
He plays off a handicap of nine – he has been as low as seven – and a winner of three majors, two in the Gold Medal and the President’s.
Anthony explained he grew up at the club and was a junior member before giving up golf. He returned and has been a senior member for 21 years.
He added Stamford have come through the pandemic relatively unscathed, explaining: “It has been an uncertain time in the last couple of years.
“We are in a good position. We will be trying to build on what we have achieved, but it is difficult to forecast what will happen in these uncertain times.
“We are lucky the club is led by good people and blessed to have a good Council. I see my role as captain as supporting them, playing as much golf as I can, having a drink with members and being the figurehead of the club.”
Anthony’s captain’s charity will be the Anthony Seddon Fund in tribute to his friend Andrew Cowley, a huge Stalybridge Celtic fan, who took his own life.
