Tennis club serves up sixth straight promotion

PRIORY Tennis Club has marked its centenary year in style with two of its teams serving up promotions.

The men’s first team clinched the North East Cheshire Tennis League’s division two title in dramatic style after a very close race that came down to a single set difference.

It also marked a sixth successive promotion, and the team will be competing in division one for the first time in the club’s history in 2022.

Priory men’s second team also achieved promotion by winning division eight while the women’s teams also enjoyed successful seasons.

Priory members celebrated the club’s 100th anniversary with a day of special events which were attended by Jonathan Reynolds, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, and Civic Mayor Cllr Janet Cooper who cut the celebratory cake.

There was a mixed doubles tournament which saw Ed Seville and Lesley Barnes defeat Chris Czermak and Christine Lolley in the final.

The plate competition was won by Judith McKenzie and John Ackroyd who overcame Tim Vaughan and Wendy Hare in the final.
