Shop plan at former bar

A FORMER Stalybridge bar could be transformed into a retail unit and a takeaway if plans are given the go ahead.

However, the proposal has already been met with opposition.

An application has been made to convert what was the bar area on the ground floor of what was the Brit Stop on Melbourne Street.

Under the scheme, the area will be split into two. The section fronting Melbourne Street will be a retail unit.

And the section fronting Corporation Street will be a hot food takeaway.

A flat on the first floor of the property will be unaffected but Tameside Council has already received a number of objections.

The authority’s speakers’ panel (planning) committee will decide whether to approve or refuse the application.

  1. Another takeaway will mean more congestion outside the shop, more litter which will enevitably end up in the canal, abd a council that won’t give a toss about cleaning it up.
