THE shape of the Hyde wards will change when the Boundary Commission for England completes its review of the political landscape.
Councillor Jim Fitzpatrick explained that in five years the estimated number of people living in the Newton ward will be 11,370, Godley 9,709 and Longdendale 8,437.
According to Government guidelines, the target should be 9,471 people for each ward.
Cllr Fitzpatrick said: “Based on those figures, Longdendale is too small, Newton well over the target figure and Godley will need a bit taken off it.
“As for Werneth ward, the figure is 9,302 which means there will be little if any change, but that won’t be the case for the other Hyde wards.”
