MOSSLEY Hollins High School student Megan Hill and her dad Nick have completed a 155K running challenge.
The pair from Millbrook ran 5K each day in December, even taking to the roads on Christmas Day in festive hats in aid of a worthy cause.
They raised £548 for the Michael Carrick Foundation which was founded by the former Manchester United and England player to create opportunities for disadvantaged young people in Greater Manchester and his native Tyne and Wear.Nick works for Greater Manchester Police who highlighted to staff what the Foundation does.
“I wanted to do something to raise money and asked Megan if she would join me and she wanted to challenge herself,” he said.
Nick added it was tough, especially in December with wintery weather and dark nights.
He said: “We found it tiring and at the end of the first week decided to walk the 5K. It coincided with a day when it had snowed so running would have been difficult.
“By the third week our bodies had adapted, and we actually carried on each day until January 4.”
Nick, who said the pair are to continue running, summed up the satisfaction of completing their mission.
“It was two-fold, raising the money and also from a personal point of view running every day for one month,” he said.
For Megan, a former pupil at St Raphael’s, Millbrook, it also helped her training as she plays for Tameside Netball Club Under-14s and since lockdown they have been restricted to fitness sessions on Zoom.
