GPs lead Tameside’s Covid-19 vaccine programme

COVID-19 vaccines for Tameside and Glossop are being delivered by GP-led hubs.

There are five centres across the area delivering jabs locally – in Ashton, Hyde, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop.

There are also national vaccination centres, the North West’s is at The Etihad Tennis Centre in Manchester, next to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Tameside has already been administering the Pfizer jab and the Oxford-AstraZeneca version will also be introduced.

That can be transported and stored more easily, opening the window of opportunity to start vaccinating people at home – including those who have been shielding and may be housebound.

In the next month, it is hoped people who fall under the current cohort for vaccinations of people aged 70 and over, for example those who are clinically vulnerable living with heart disease or diabetes or conditions that make them vulnerable, can receive inoculation.

People eligible for vaccination will be contacted based on the priority stages and will receive an invitation to book an appointment. For most people this will be a text or letter, either from their GP or the national NHS.

Please do not contact the NHS to get an appointment until you hear from it.
