A MOSSLEY charity has launched an urgent appeal for help so it can continue to support a community of former homelessness people.
Emmaus Mossley provides a home, work and individual help to its 26 companions at Longlands Mill.
The majority of funds needed to survive are generated through Emmaus’s popular secondhand superstore which sells donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, electrical items, clothes and vintage wares.
However, the temporary closure of the superstore due to coronavirus means the charity faces a shortfall.
The longer the closure continues, the more difficult the situation becomes.
Gassy, one of the Emmaus Mossley companions, said: “Joining the Emmaus Mossley community was the best thing I ever did.
“There is a lot of satisfaction, a peace of mind, a sense of security and wellbeing.
“If it wasn’t for the support group that is involved with this charity I don’t know where I would be.
“It is a massive support group. You become a companion and gain friends but more than that, it is like having an extended family.”
Director Alison Hill says: “Every person and household has been affected by the coronavirus lockdown. Emmaus Mossley is no different.
“Despite our secondhand superstore being closed, we are doing all we can to keep our residents safe, supported and active.
“We know it is really tough for everyone. But any gift you can spare will help us get through this difficult time.
“A donation from you will help us continue our vital work during the current emergency and hopefully long into the future.”
