New eyes needed at Denton Town

DENTON Town have had plenty of interest after advertising for a new member of their management team.

But the futures of joint bosses Phill Cooper and Darren Green are not under threat. The Cheshire League league one side raised eyebrows when it went public with its plea for a new member of staff.

However, The Correspondent has been told it is not someone they want instead of the current pair but as well as.

Phill said: “If I’m being honest, the advert is nothing major.

“We’re just looking for an extra pair of hands for training and match days.

“It will effectively be a first team coach and it would be good to get someone with more ideas and contacts.”

A Denton Town spokesman added: “We are looking for someone to commit to taking sessions at training, warm-ups on match days and general management duties.”

Denton’s league campaign has continued to be inconsistent but striker Jake Massey impressed after scoring 11 goals in his first 10 appearances.

But hopes are high and one eye is already on next season as they look to bounce back into the Premier Division, especially after reaching the final of the Manchester FA Saturday Challenge Trophy.

What status the Cheshire League has at the start of next term remains to be seen after it presented its case to remain a ‘supply league’, which provides teams the platform to enter the football pyramid.

But it is thought there was never a consideration of switching competitions should it lose its status at Whittles Farm.

However, they believe releasing more fixtures rather than just ones for individual months would help in planning for a season.
