Teirnan hits the bullseye on Dragon’s Den

A DENTON darts player is feeling double top after hitting the jackpot on the television show Dragon’s Den.But Teirnan McCorkell insists he will not be ditching his arrows even though he is hitting the big time.

On Thursday nights, he lines up for the darts team based at Denton Cricket Club in the Audenshaw and Denton 501 League.

And things have changed somewhat after he netted some £41,000 for 30 per cent of his pipeEASY business on the hit BBC show.

Judge Sara Davies was that impressed with his start up, which produces a surfacing measuring tool for people doing DIY and tradespeople, allowing users to precisely cut around pipework, giving a circular finish rather than a square-cut finish, she decided to invest.

But the windfall and the subsequent interest, with orders coming from overseas, has not changed his desire to turn out for Denton CC.

“It’s been a bit nuts,” admitted Teirnan, who lives in Levenshulme. “I’m now being asked to do business talks and there’s also a podcast that wants me to appear on it.

“Now after Dragon’s Den, when I first turn up for darts matches there’s a bit of a laugh and joke. I get, ‘Here he is, Mr Dragon’s Den.’“Even though it was three or four weeks ago, the appearance is still pretty fresh in people’s memories. It’s still a fresh topic for people to talk about.

“But even though I’ve been successful, I still love playing darts – which I do twice a week – and want to keep on doing it.”

Teirnan is proving a valuable member of the Denton Cricket club darts team, having only lost two individual matches since the start of May.

One of the things that impressed viewers was his presentation to the Dragons – with many complementing how natural it was.

But the man behind it has revealed the secret to his success – basically there was not one.

Teirnan, who also plays darts for South West Manchester Cricket Club, added: “I’d never done a presentation before in my life until Dragon’s Den was filmed. I just thought I’d be myself and see what happens.

“I didn’t even rehearse it in front of the kids and wife as I was too nervous!

“I thought I’ll see what happens and see if it works and thankfully it did.

“And it’s really seen a surge in interest in what I do. I’ve even had an order from New Zealand.”
