All the fun of the fete in Haughton Green

VILLAGERS turned out in force to celebrate all things Haughton Green at the annual village fete.

And competitive juices soon started flowing as pubs battled it out in a tug o’war, the area’s cutest pet was judged and The Great Village Bake Off saw action at the ovens.

Children and parents all arrived at Tommy Todd Village Green to soak up the event that had been organised in conjunction with Willow Wood Hospice.

The Forever Green Community Group’s café stall proved popular, as did the tent holding kids activities like plate spinning.

Also high on the list of many who attended was having a go on the bungee trampoline that was also set up.

It may have been dry but that did not stop councillors from getting soaked in the stocks as Denton South’s representatives ended up in the firing line.

“It shows the spirit in the community,” said Councillor George Newton about the fete. “In Haughton Green, there’s a really strong sense of community.

“I suppose it’s a more traditional village in parts and everyone is looking after each other.

“All profits from the event, which was run by community volunteers – things like entering the tug o’war – will go to Willow Wood Hospice.”
