Tameside charities looking to recruit volunteers at upcoming event

To celebrate both Volunteers Week and Small Charities Week a local organisation is hosting an event where local groups can highlight the great work they do.

Tameside Loves Charities will be held in and around Tameside One in Ashton Market Square on Tuesday 18 June between 10am and 3pm.

Action Together has organised the event which is being supported by Tameside Council and features stalls from organisations based across the borough.

Action Together and Volunteer Centre Tameside will be providing the public with information about volunteering on the day. They will also be running information sessions which discuss a range of topics including what is volunteering and what are its benefits and how will it make me more employable.

Organisations attending have been asked to bring along an along an activity which can engage the audience, get people talking and highlight the sector in all its diverse forms.

All groups attending will be able to raise awareness for their cause, recruit volunteers and promote their services.

The event features an exhibition space where organisations will run short, informative talks that highlights the work they do.

Groups and stalls will be spread across the indoor and outdoor area and a voluntary sector treasure hunt will encourage visitors to navigate round the space.

There are 1,167 voluntary organisations, community groups and social enterprises in Tameside and an estimated 34,000 volunteers. Nearly 70% of these are groups are small and led by volunteers, who give up a total of around 83,400 hours per week. This is valued at £75.5 million per year and celebrated throughout Volunteers Week from 1 – 7 June.

Small Charity Week runs from 17 – 22 June and raises awareness of the essential work of the UK’s small charity sector. These organisations make an invaluable contribution to the lives of millions of individuals, communities and causes across the UK and the rest of the world.

Cllr Allison Gwynne, Tameside Council Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Community Safety and Environment, said: “This is an event that’s going to be full of activities and entertainment for anyone who comes down. It’s fantastic we can support Action Together to help promote some of these inspiring organisations from across Tameside.”
