Dog charity finds pets 4,000 forever homes

A DENTON-BASED dogs charity is celebrating after finding its 4,000th rescue dog his forever home.

Two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Butch, was being cared for at the Manchester Dogs Trust’s rehoming centre having been found wandering the streets of Stockport.

But now he has taken the accolade of being the 4,000th dog to be adopted, having stolen the hearts of Emily Gregory and Joseph Towse.

Rehoming centre manager Dawn Bishop says: “It is fantastic that we have rehomed so many dogs and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone that supports us, from people who choose to adopt to our volunteers and players of People’s Postcode Lottery, who help us make sure we can give our dogs everything they need whilst they are with us.

“We wouldn’t be able to care for dogs in the way we do without a community of passionate dog lovers.”

Manchester Dogs Trust, based at Parkway near Sainsbury’s supermarket, has been caring for dogs since it opened in October 2014.

Since then, it is estimated that approximately 400,000kg of dried dog food, 60,000 tins of dog food and 15,000 packets of doggie treats have been eaten, with 160,000kg of bedding washed.

Dawn added: “Looking after so many dogs every day of the year and making sure they are happy and healthy is a huge task.

“We couldn’t do it without the support of the public so we want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has helped us find homes for our gorgeous dogs.”

Since 2014, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised over £11.7million for Dogs Trust, that has ensured dogs receive all the TLC they need while they wait to meet their forever families.
