Town Talk: Chess in Schools

CHESS in Schools and Communities is hosting its second one day chess congress event of 2019 for year two to year six pupils and year seven to year 11 pupils.

It takes place at Broadoak and Smallshaw Community Centre, Broadoak Road, Ashton, on Sunday, May 19 from 10am to 2pm. Registration is from 9.30am.

The tournament is not run on a knockout basis and all competitors will play a minimum of six games.

Entry fee payable on the day is £3 and competitors should bring a packed lunch although some drinks and sweets will be available to purchase. Parents are welcome to stay.

Learn to play or practise your chess skills with free sessions each Saturday at the new Tameside Central Library in the One Vision building in Ashton between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

It is open to all ages and free refreshments are provided.
