POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary that targeted an elderly woman in Denton.
Between 10am and midday on Wednesday 13 March 2019 a man knocked on the door of a property on Town Lane and told the occupant, a woman in her 90s, that some money he had been counting had blown into her back garden.
She accompanied him through the property to the back garden to look for it.
After he had left, she realised that a number of items, including £40 from her purse, as well as a bank card, had been stolen.
Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.
The bank card has been used in Gorton and in Accrington, Lancashire, to withdraw cash.
Constable Katy McFarlane of GMP’s Tameside District said: “This is a cruel, calculating burglary that has deliberately targeted a vulnerable member of our community.
“If you recognise the man pictured or have any information, please contact us immediately.”
